"Superdeetail" overmoulded figures Super Deetail new paint versions

About "deetail"

54 mm, 1/32 scale plastic figures on metal bases. First introduced in 1971 the range reached its peak in the early 1980's. The range was downsized in the late 1980's and production moved to China in the early 1990's. The figures are factory painted apart from the "superdeetail" * range which are manufactured by over moulding different coloured plastics. Also produced were vehicles and other accessories in metal and plastic. The bases are usually marked Britains Ltd 1971. This is the date when the "deetail" copyright was applied for, not the issue or manufacture date of the figures. Some figures have been produced in both countries, others only in the UK or only in China. Most series usually have 6 figures in them although there are some exceptions such as the superdeetail with only 4 poses and the Robin Hood series with 7. Also in other series (e.g. the foot Indians) only 6 poses were in the series but some figures were replaced so that there are now more than 6 poses available although only 6 poses were released at a time.

* - Note the difference between "Superdeetail" which are figures produced during the early 1980's using a process of "overmoulding" different coloured plastics (a process more commonly associated with Timpo) and "Super Deetail" which are more detailed paint versions of the standard range of figures first released late 2006.

Americans (when first introduced the Americans had red bases, however, these were soon replaced with yellow/brown bases which in turn were replaced by the standard green base in 1974). The first series were released 1971 - 1980. In 1981 6 new figures (second series) replaced the first series. Although 3 of the poses are similar they are now made as one piece mouldings (ie without the plug in arm). The figures originally had paper sticker (red with a black star) on their helmets, however, these are often missing. The second series lasted until 1989. In 1993 the 2nd series figures were re-introduced this time in camouflage paint schemes.

"Superdeetail"

These figures are not painted like the rest of the deetail range but are manufactured by overmoulding different coloured plastics. This method of production was more widely used by Timpo for their "swopitt" figures. These figures have "modern" (i.e. 1970's/80's) uniforms and equipment and were produced between 1980 and 1988 in 3 different colour schemes to represent Paratroopers, Marine Commandos and SAS:

Paratroopers - green camouflage, dark green belts/straps, black weapons and boots, red berets. Marine Commandos - dark green camouflage, black belts/straps, brown weapons and boots, green berets. SAS - brown/green camouflage, black belts/straps, brown weapons and boots, grey berets.

Spare Parts

I do not have any original deetail spare parts for sale, but as can be seen here several of the Timpo weapons now produced by Toyway are suitable for deetail knights. Also, as this photo shows the Timpo wild west weapons are useful for converting/repairing deetail figures. Full details of the weapons packs can be found here.

Catalogues - catalogues featuring the deetail range can be found on my "Manufacturers Catalogues and Other Reference Books" page.
