Home Farm including Vintage Vehicles

Catalogue Number Description Issued - deleted
Marshall 'M' Tractor - In 1848 Marshall Sons & Company was founded in Gainsborough, England - producing steam traction engines, rollers, portable steam engines and threshing machines. In the 1920's they started to develop the motor tractor and in 1930 they released the first in a line of single cylinder diesel engined tractors. The Marshal 'M' tractor commenced production in 1938 and became popular as a replacement for the dated steam traction engines. Total production did not exceed 900 units and ceased in 1945. The model comes on a wooden plinth complete with inscribed plaque. 1999 - 2000
Lanz Bulldog - The Lanz D6006 Diesel Tractor was first manufactured in 1952 by the Heinrich Lanz AG factory in Mannheim, Germany. Production of this tractor ceased in 1958. This mode is depicted with a figure of Heinrich Lanz who unfortunately died prior to the introduction of this model, standing beside the tractor. This is because Heinrich Lanz would never have driven this tractor but recognises the contribution he made to the tractor world during his lifetime.; 8th March 1838 - 1st February 1935. The model comes on a wooden plinth complete with inscribed plaque. 2000 only
Plough Set - Traditional ploughing created a strong and enduring bond between man and horses which grew during the long and lonely hours spent together. The horses featured in this set are Cyldesdales which were first bred in Lanarkshire in the 18th Century. The origins of the plough featured date back to 1840. The ploughboy is featured in traditional warm clothing of the period. 1995 - 1996
Farmyard Scene - A common feature in turn of the century farmyards was a well and here it provides a focal point for this traditional farmyard activity. The scene is very evocative of the period as the Farmer's Wife feeds the livestock, which would the farm in eggs and meat and provides a small surplus for sale a the local market. The animals are traditional breeds that thrive in free range environments; Large white pigs, Norfolk Black turkey, Rhode Island Red hen, Roman White geese while the farm dog and cat look on. 1995 - 1996
The Forge - This set depicts a typical farm forge which was visited once a month by the local smith and farrier to shoe the farm's horses and repair basic equipment. The hearth is built against the outside wall of the stables and protected from the weather by an iron cowl. The farrier is shoeing a heavy hunter, his split leather apron is designed to allow him to grip the horse's foreleg. He is about to burn a new shoe into the horn of the hoof - a painless operation for the horse - ensuring a good fit for the shoe. The second smith is shaping a shoe over a cast anvil. The forge is equipped with a selection of the smith's and farrier's tools and the inevitable collection of old horse shoes. 1995 - 1996
The Tumbrel Cart - This Tumbrel Cart is sometimes referred to as the Derbyshire Tip Cart. These carts with local variations, were used for all kinds of transportation from manure carting to potato harvesting and the occasional trip to the market. The horse is a typical hill farm horse, a cross between a heavy pony and Shire. Blinkers would be worn for road work, especially if the horse was not used to the busy market scene, stopping the horse from seeing sudden movements tot he side which might cause it to "spook". The carter is dressed for summer in a heavy shirt and moleskin waistcoat. His high waisted trousers are tied with string below the knee to stop farm dust blowing up the legs. A cautious man, the carter wears both belt and braces. 1995 - 1996
The Windmill - For centuries grain has been ground into flour in windmills or water powered mills. It was only the advent of steam power and later electric motors to power the grinding wheels that lead to the demise of the visually attractive and historically important buildings. This depiction is based upon a mill close tot he WBritain factory and shows the miller, traditionally dressed, holding his wooden bladed flout shovel and sticking out his chest with pride. His assistant is moving a hessian sack of grain on a traditional sack barrow towards the weighing scales, whilst the mill cat is ever watchful for mice. 1996 - 1997
The Milk Cart - In towns and villages across the country the supply of milk was generally in the hands of a local tradesman until well into the 1930's. Here we depict such a tradesman with his pushcart complete with milk churn and dippers about to ladle some milk into the young boy's jug. The dippers, in different sizes, which measured the quantity of milk - usually in gills - were always highly polished and the general 'turn-out' of his cart was a matter of personal pride for the tradesman. 1996 - 1997
The Good Shepherd - Shepherding has been part of the farming scene since before biblical times and sometimes the uncanny partnership between the shepherd and his dog has long been an established practice. In this depiction a newly born lamb is carried by the shepherd who strides out, crook in hand whilst his faithful dog effortlessly moves and controls the sheep. 1996 - 1997
Ferguson TE 20 Tractor - 1996 is the golden anniversary of the TE20 Tractor. In 1946 the Standard Motor Company built the first TE 20 at their Banner Lane site in Coventry. Although only 316 were built in the first year, by the end of 1956 over 500,000 had been manufactured. This set features the distinctive grey TE20 tractor mounted on a wooden plinth complete with inscribed plaque. The bespectacled driver is a model of Harry Ferguson, whose name this tractor bears. 1999 - 2000
The Blacksmith - Apprenticeship to a local craftsman was the only way for a country boy to gain the skills necessary to make his way in life. Here a young boy, not yet graduated to long trousers is learning to file with a man sized file, whilst the Blacksmith forges a plough part on his anvil. (Note that both figures wear a cap as it was well into the 1940;'s before going bare headed was socially acceptable. 1996 - 1997
The Farrier - A regular part of country living in the early years of the Century was the care of animals. Horses, whether for leisure riding or working needed regular attention and here we depict such a scene. New shoes are required and the Farrier pulls off the old shoes whilst the owner holds the horse's head by the bridle to calm it whilst the work progresses. 1996 - 1997
Feeding Time - This scene depicts the farmer's wife feeding the farmyard fowl who come clucking and squawking as soon as she appears with he feed bowl on her arm. The cat and dog sit by passively whilst the bees go about their of business making honey for those country teas. Meanwhile the goat eats everything in site as she waits to be milked in order to make goat's cheese to sell at the local market. 1996 - 1997
Fordson E27N Major Tractor - Manufactured by the Ford Motor Company at Dagenham between 1945 and 1952 the Fordson E27N is a testament to the company's resourcefulness! At the end of the war, as the country started to get back to some normality, the demand for tractors began to increase. Steel and machine tools, however, were in short supply so the new Fordson E27N was produced using 80% of parts derived from the old N tractor. By 1952 total production reached 233,112 tractors, with a basic Standard Agricultural Tractor costing around £264. This set features Henry Ford, the pioneer of mass production, as the driver. The model comes on a wooden plinth complete with inscribed plaque. 1999 - 2000
David Brown 900 Tractor - The David Brown 900 Tractor was first manufactured in 1956 by the David Brown Tractor Corporation Ltd at Meltham in Yorkshire, England. It was introduced with 4 power options, a 40bhp diesel engine, a 37bhp vapourising oil engine and two petrol engines of 40bhp and 45bhp. Electric starting was standard but lighting was optional. The gearbox had six forward and two reverse gears, with speeds from 0.53mph to 15.2mph. The tractor had an overall length of 113", a width of 65" and a height over the exhaust of 77.75". More than 40 implements were specifically designed for the tractor. Total production of the tractor reached 13,000 between 1956 and 1958. The model comes on a wooden plinth complete with plaque. 1999 - 2000
Land Rover Series 1 - During the post war years two brothers, Maurice and Spencer Wilks, were Rover's Chairman and Chief Engineer respectively. Maurice, who owned a farm, had bought and ex-US army Jeep to get around his land and he became convinced the Rover could build a better four wheel drive machine. Thus the Land Rover was conceived. Simple to build, strong and easy to operate, it would be ideal for the farmer and the developing Third World. To overcome the steel shortage the body panels were to be made of aluminium. On April 30th 1948 the Land Rover Series 1 was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show. It was an immediate success and order began to pour in from all over the world. The vehicle received a royal endorsement when King George VI tested one at Sandringham and Balmoral - and ordered the first of many to be used on the royal estates. The model comes on a wooden plinth complete with plaque. 1999 - 2000
