About "deetail"

54 mm, 1/32 scale plastic figures on metal bases. First introduced in 1971 the range reached its peak in the early 1980's. The range was downsized in the late 1980's and production moved to China in the early 1990's. The figures are factory painted apart from the "superdeetail" range which are manufactured by over moulding different coloured plastics. Also produced were vehicles and other accessories in metal and plastic. The bases state Britains Ltd 1971. This is the date when copyright was applied for, for the metal bases and the "deetail" trademark, not the issue date for the figures. Some ranges of figures have been produced in both countries others only in the UK or China.

Most series usually have 6 figures in them although there are some exceptions such as the superdeetail with only 4 poses and the Robin Hood series with 7 poses. Also sometimes Britains replaced some poses but not other e.g. the foot indians.

* - Note the difference between "superdeetail" which are overmoulded figures produced during the early 1980's and "Super Deetail" which are more detailed paint versions of the standard range of figures first released late 2006.

7352 Japanese Infantry - The Japanese were released in 1973 and withdraw in 1979 (to be replaced by the 2nd series Germans). There were 6 poses : Officer with Samurai sword, standing firing, firing machine gun from hip, bayoneting (rifle at hip), bayoneting (rifle overhead) and kneeling firing (not on photo). Photo of 5 of the 6 Japanese
American infantry - There were 2 versions of US infantry. The figures originally had paper sticker (red with a black star) on their helmets, however, these are often missing.
1st Series American infantry - The six poses are: Kneeling firing rifle, standing firing rifle, charging with rifle, firing "grease gun" from hip, clubbing with rifle and holding raised rifle. On all of these figures the arm holding the weapon is a separate moulding and plugs into a hole in the shoulder. When first released (in 1971) the US infantry were on red bases, however, these were more or less immediately replaced with the yellow/brown base as used on the Germans. In 1974 the bases were again changed, this time for the standard green bases. 1st series on yellow/brown bases, 1st series on green bases.
2nd Series American infantry - In 1980 the second series replaced the first series. These are a slightly different size and are single piece mouldings (no plug in arm). The Standing, Kneeling, Charging and grease gunner remain, however the other poses are replaced with a man firing a bazooka and with rifle any bayonet raised above his head. They were discontinued in 1989 however in 1993 production moved to China although the figures were now in assorted camouflage schemes (UN, "Enemy", Arctic, etc). Later they were released as WW2 again in both standard and super deetail paint schemes. 2nd series Americans,
German infantry - There were 2 series of German infantry. The figures originally had paper sticker of the Germans shield on their helmets, however, these are often missing.
7350 1st Series Germans - The six poses are: Kneeling firing MG42, standing firing rifle, charging with fixed bayonet, advancing firing MP40, throwing grenade and carrying MG38 and ammo box. The first 4 poses have a plug in arm, the MG38 plugs into a hole inthe figures hand and is often missing. When first released (in 1971) they yellow/brown bases and around 1974 the bases were to the standard green bases. They remained in production until 1989. 1st series on yellow/brown bases, 1st series on green bases.
7380 2nd Series Germans - In 1977 the second series of Germans were released. These were new poses replacing the Japanese Infantry and were available alongside the first series figures so therefore gave a total of 12 different poses of Germans. The poses are Officer pointing, kneeling radio operator, flamethrower, kneeling firing rifle, carrying MG38 across chest and marching at the slope. The Radio op., flamethrower and marching figures has a separately moulded arm while the other 3 figures are one piece mouldings. The fuel tank and radio are also separate mouldings and plug onto a lug on the figures back.
7342 British Infantry (released 1973 withdrawn 1989) (early versions of these figures had a stained paint style where as later ones were moulded in coloured plastic). Officer firing pistol, throwing grenade, standing firing rifle, kneeling firing rifle, standing firing bren gun and charging with fixed bayonet.

Shield Knights: The shield knights are chunkier than other figures. They are in gold armour and have a large black shield with foil design which plugs onto a lug on the figure. A black sword also plugs onto a lug on their belt. These were one of the last new figures to be made in England before production was moved to China.

"Superdeetail"

These figures are not painted like the rest of the deetail range but are manufactured by overmoulding different coloured plastics. This method of production was more widely used by Timpo for their "swopitt" figures. Initially 6 paratrooper figures were produced in 1978. Poses were: Standing Firing Rifle, Kneeling Firing Rifle, Throwing Grenade, Bazooka, walking with SMG and Walking with rifle. Due to technical difficulties with the overmoulding process these were quickly withdrawn. In 1980 a more simplified set of 4 figures was released, these didn't have the same detail such as different coloured cuffs, moulded buttons and cap badges, etc. The 4 poses were Standing firing rifle and firing bazooka (same poses as first version), throwing grenade (arms in different position to the 1st version), and firing pistol. They were available in 4 different colour scheme to represent Paratroopers (red berets), SAS (grey berets) and (Royal Marine) Commandos (green berets).
